Common Name(s): Timborana Botanical Name: Pseusopiptadenia psilostachya Woodworking Qualities: Sanding Timborana can be difficult, while sawing can be very difficult because of its hardness. Pre-boring is suggested for nailing because of the same trait. Glue is a more acceptable option, as it is more readily applied. Janka Rating: Timborana’s Janka rating is 1570, marking it as well-above the half-way point on the Janka scale. Species Characteristics: Timborana is a hard wood that holds a solid resistance to fungus and termites. The drying process for Timborana is a longer process than most other woods. Also, Timborana retains its smoothness under friction. Appearance: Sapwood versus heartwood, Timborana is cream to yellow colored against a lighter yellow with dark streaks. Color Change: Over time, reddish coloring can occur in the wood. After even longer, rich brown coloration will take place, usually within 6 to eight months depending on the exposure to light. Uses: Timborana’s most popular uses are flooring and heavy carpentry. It is, however, also used in furniture. |
Timborana Origin:
Timborana originates from Central America and Brazil.
